This year the NSA ran two taster portrait sculpture workshops. These involved working from a model to sculpt a portrait head sculpture. The day workshops offered a flavour of the challenges and thrills of portrait sculpting and an opportunity to enjoy the pleasure of working in clay.
The workshops were limited to eight people. All participants sat around the model. The model was seated on a revolving office chair and she rotated every few minutes, so that everyone had an opportunity to see and sculpt from all perspectives.
For many of the participants it was their first time sculpting and they produced some amazing work.
Sculpting is intensely absorbing and time disappeared. A day didn’t feel long enough.
After the workshop the finished heads were hollowed and fired at Carrington Pottery.
The plan is to run two further workshops in 2024.
